In 1902, Banner Elk's first lawyer, Thomas Lowe, made the founding family's Bettie Banner his bride after 15 years of courtship. 1902 Turnpike House was the Lowe's first and only home, and their only daughter, Fairie Belle, lived here her entire life. There are many stories, historical, cultural, and sometimes comical, connected to this 104 year old, fully restored mountain estate. Through the years it has always been a welcoming gathering place for family, friends and special guests. Today, spend happy hours overlooking the secluded, tranquil grounds from rocking chairs or the swing on the expansive front porch. 
 

On cooler evenings, retreat to the elegant but comfortable Gathering Room around the slate hearth and wood burning stove. Later, retire to your private quarters, a cozy oasis, beautifully appointed with an eclectic blend of antiques, art, and family treasures. For your comfort, our guest rooms are furnished with down comforters, private baths, ceiling fans, remote cable TV, and many more amenities that you deserve.

• Weekend of September 3rd, 2010 - Ribs, Steaks, and Tenderloin 101 - Chef Paul will share professional and personal secrets for fall-off-the-bone ribs, no-fail buttery steaks, and marinated tenderloin to swoon for, with dreamy sauces to pair with each selection. Side dishes and wine pairings included. This is a hands-on class, so that you will be prepared to make all dishes yourself, in your own kitchen.
   

• Weekend of September 17th, 2010 - Fish and Seafood 101 - If you think you don't like seafood, or if you LOVE seafood but aren't sure how to prepare it, this class is for you! Chef Paul will show you how to cook seafood PROPERLY (and the class is hands-on for you) so that you will be confident in your new skills, and friends and family will FIGHT to come to your home for a seafood meal! Side dishes and wine pairings included.

The newly remodeled James Shomaker room is $99.00 Sun. - Thurs., $124.00 Fri. &  Sat. and $134.00 during some holiday periods.

Fairie Belle Lowe is $89.00 Sun. - Thur., $109.00  Fri. &  Sat. and $119.00 during some holiday periods.

2 night minimum stay on weekends in most rooms . 3 night minimum on some holiday weekends.

More than 2 guests in some rooms for $20.00 per person.

We can immediately guarantee your reservation with a current credit card number and expiration date. If you prefer to pay by check, we will need to receive full payment at least 10 days prior to your visit. We will email, mail or FAX confirmation of your reservation upon receipt of your credit card number or deposit.

The 1902 Turnpike House B&B is a small property where every guest reservation made is both important and special to us. If your travel plans change and you must cancel your reservation, please call us at least 10 (ten) days prior to your arrival date for a cheerful refund of your deposit, if any, less a $15 processing fee.

In the unlikely event that you must cancel with less than ten (10) days notice, shorten your stay or check out early, please understand that we must ask you to take responsibility for your entire reservation at the time you notify us of your cancellation. If we can rebook your room(s), a full or partial refund will be made.

Rates and policies are subject to change and vary during high impact periods and for some special requests. Weekends require a two night minimum stay in most rooms.
